Lunch at Alfi Spitalfields

When enjoying some time in Spitalfields there really are so many places to enjoy brunch, lunch and dinner. On our recent stay exploring all the area has to offer, we enjoyed lunch at Alfi.

Located in the heart of Spitalfields market, our taste buds were treated to an Italian feast!

It was an oasis and perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle. We were very well looked after by the friendly and polite staff and took them up on their recommendations from the menu and the wine list.

There are so many tempting dishes on the menu, many designed to share which is just how Mr B and I love to eat.

To kick off our indulgent lunch we enjoyed a glass of the ‘Ciu ciu’ – Falerio Oris. This beautiful Italian white was lovely and crisp.

To start with we enjoyed grazing on a few sharing dishes to get our appetites really going. We enjoyed the ‘Whipped cannellini’ which is served with a topping of green salsa and focaccia crisps on the side. This dip was heavenly, packed full of garlic, it was creamy and delicious.

We got our hands messy enjoying the ‘King prawns in chilli & garlic oil’. They had such a lovely smoky undertone where they had been cooked on the grill. The sweet and smoky prawns were absolutely delicious dunked in the accompanying lovage mayo.

We also had a mixed charcuterie board which came with a selection of finocchiona salami, coppa, mortadella, house pickles, pane carasau. The quality spoke for itself, each one was so very tasty.

For our ‘main course’ sharing plates we opted for the Dry age ribeye, cooked medium rare which had a garlic, tarragon and peppercorn butter. The char on this steak was unreal! Mr B declared this his favourite dish.

The other dish we fell in love with was the Hake on the bone which is served with roast san marzano tomatoes, confit garlic, saffron sauce. Oh my word, I just loved this dish, the fish was so delicate and cooked just wonderfully.

Mr B and I couldn’t possibly enjoy an Italian feast without having pasta! So we shared a portion of the Beef shin ragu pappardelle. The ragu was divine, the beef melted in the mouth and coated the al dente paste just perfectly.

We also enjoyed some sides of grilled green beans and roasted potatoes, again with both having that lovely smoky undertone.

To wash it all down we enjoyed our fantastic Italian feast with a glass of Cortese – ‘Gavi la Fornace’, very smooth and easy drinking.

Feeling absolutely stuffed but also finding it impossible to resist a tiramisu we decided we would share a dessert and we were very glad we did. Full 10/10 marks for this expertly made tiramisu.

To accompany it we had a beautiful cocktail which balanced two of my favourite things, coffee and chocolate! The Caffe Charlie was made with 13 sapling vodka, kahlua, mozart chocolate, topped with cream and a cherry.

We were absolutely stuffed! But sitting down for a few hours in the lovely surroundings of Alfi, relaxing and dining on expertly cooked Italian dishes where the quality ingredients were left to shine, was a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Spitalfields.
