A Dog Friendly Stay at The Bike & Boot Peak District

We have enjoyed two wonderful weekends away at the Bike and Boot in Scarborough. As soon as they announced they were opening a Bike and Boot in the Peak District we knew it was one we would visit as soon as we could.

The Bike and Boot pride themselves on being dog friendly and rightly so. Arriving with JoJo, of course, we checked in using the self-check-in machines in reception, but before heading to our room we were offered a quick tour around so we knew where everything was.

We headed straight to the lounge as one of the (big) perks about staying at the Bike and Boot is that there is free tea and coffee available for guests 24/7 in the lounge. We arrived in perfect time as another perk is that every afternoon in the lounge they put out complimentary cake for guests to enjoy.

Whilst Mr B enjoyed a slice of red velvet cake I tucked into a lovely slice of coffee and walnut cake. A yummy piece of cake and a nice latte was a great way to start our weekend.

And of course not forgetting JoJo, there is also a big biscuit barrel in the lounge full of biscuit marrow bones. JoJo had more than her fair share during our stay!

Talking of perks, there  is a cinema room which shows a different film three times a day, free of course.

On site there is also free bike storage and, unfortunately for all the doggos, there is a dog grooming room! It is such a great space and more dog friendly hotels should definitely have one. We visited on a very muddy weekend and after a seven-mile walk JoJo was quite muddy so we headed straight to the ‘Wadobi’ and we headed back into the hotel with a clean fresh greyhound!

Now onto our room. We stayed in a medium room which was home to a super king-size bed, which was both human and JoJo approved!

Our room had a Smart TV, USB charge points and complimentary tea and coffee with fresh milk and bottled water in the fridge.

For JoJo there was a vet bed waiting in the room which she soon plonked her bum down on to have a snooze and there was also a cute giraffe toy waiting for her, which we affectionately named Gary! She still loves Gary, he has already had to have one visit to Grandma’s to get sewn up!

There was a seating area next to the window which is where we sat to plan our day’s walk with help from the map which was left in the room for us.

The bathroom has a large freestanding shower and toiletries provided are body wash, shampoo and conditioner.

After unwinding in our room for a few hours we headed down to enjoy dinner at the onsite restaurant ‘Bareca’, which is, of course, dog friendly.

With JoJo snoozing away at our feet on her blanket we sipped on a lovely bottle of Merlot whilst we browsed the menu.

I very nearly ordered a pizza but instead went for the ‘Dirty burger’ which came with cheese sauce, smoked bacon, fried onions, cheese and mustard all on a brioche bun with a side of fries.

Oh my, it was a gorgeous burger, a well-seasoned juicy burger with nice indulgent toppings. It was messy, but definitely worth it! The fries were lovely too!

Mr B could also not resist a burger and went for the ‘Bareca beef burger’, which came topped with sun-blushed tomatoes, gherkin, smoked bacon, Monterey Jack cheese in a brioche bun and a side of fries. Like me, he declared it delicious and enjoyed every mouthful.

We were not rushed from our table and after we finished our red wine we headed over to the lounge for an after-dinner coffee.

Bareca is also where you go for breakfast. The continental breakfast, although small, had more on offer than I expected.

There was a range of cereals and porridge pots, a small selection of fresh fruit, cheese, cold cut meat, yoghurts, bread, croissants, eggs which you could boil yourself to cook to preference, warm pancakes and bacon.

We both enjoyed our breakfast and it really set us up ready for a full day’s walk into Castleton. You are spoilt for wonderful walks in the Peak District based at the hotel.

Another great dog-friendly stay at the Bike and Boot, this time in the Peak District instead of Scarborough, but one we enjoyed just as much.
