Chocolate making at Edwart Chocolatier Paris

After eating our way round Paris for three days we needed to end our foodie trip in style and we certainly did! We took part in a chocolate-making workshop with Edwart Chocolatier, a shop known for its fine artisan chocolates and quality ingredients.

We were looking forward to learning about the chocolate they use, getting a little messy and of course eating all the chocolate! Located on one of the most famous streets in Paris, Rue de Rivoli, which is full of high-end designer shops and five star hotels, Edwart Chocolatier fits in perfectly.

The shop had beautiful Easter displays when we visited – everything here is hand crafted and looks stunning!

Aprons on, it was time to learn about the chocolate and, of course, have a little taste before we started! Workshop manager Lisa was very knowledgeable, really friendly and answered all our chocolatey questions!

Now onto the fun part . . . I was in charge of measuring out the chocolate and then tempering it.

Seeing the chocolate turn from solid to beautiful liquid it was hard not to dive right in . . . and it smelt incredible! It’s so important to get the chocolate to the correct temperature when tempering to create that lovely shiny finish and perfect snap.

While I was in charge of the chocolate Mr B was making the praline . . . from scratch!

With both jobs successfully complete, it was time to cool down the praline which is a lot harder than it looks! Using the marble work surfaces to bring the temperature down we spread out the praline as thinly as we could before scooping it back up and doing it all over again!

It certainly works the arm muscles as you can feel the praline setting the cooler it gets. Again the praline smelt so good!

Once at the right consistency, it was time to roll the praline for our truffles and once rolled we dusted them in icing sugar. Our truffles were all supposed to be the same size but I don’t think we quite achieved that!

My favourite part of the workshop was coating the truffles in the tempered chocolate . . . it was so messy but so much fun!

I have no idea how they make them so perfect for the shop as ours ended up all shapes and sizes. But as misshaped as they were Mr B and I were still very proud of our truffles and couldn’t wait for them to set so we could start scoffing them.

I can confirm they were bloody delicious! I would say that was down to our amazing skills but I think it was more down to the quality of the ingredients and Lisa’s guidance.

Because there is no such thing as too much chocolate, Lisa had lined up some incredible signature chocolates for us to sample. When we were talking previously she had picked up on what we liked and clocked our favourite flavours.

Of course they were all delicious, but my favourite was the sesame milk chocolate as the combination was amazing! Mr B’s favourite was the curry dark chocolate, he said the spicing was balanced really well.

With our bellies full, certificates in hand and big cheesy grins on our faces, we said goodbye to the perfect ending to our Paris trip!

This looks like SO much fun! And yes – I am not surprised about the fact, that it is super difficult to make! I am sure, I would mess up everything if I was in charge of it! Better to eat it then 😀
    Love the photos!
