Staying at Sofitel Mumbai BKC

Mumbai, India’s largest city, is full of life. You are surrounded by so many sounds and sights, our senses were on overdrive! It’s safe to say Mr B and I truly fell in love with Mumbai and we couldn’t have chosen a better hotel for our whirlwind two-night two-days’ stay in this magical city.

The Sofitel Mumbai BKC is located in the central business district and made it easy for us to get out and about.

The wonderful service started when, after a long flight, we were greeted outside arrivals by a friendly Sofitel driver. We sat in the air-conditioned car and were greeted with cold water and a selection of other cold drinks. I highly recommend getting the hotel to arrange your transfer after travelling, it took all the stress and hassle from getting to the hotel on our own.

After a quick and easy check-in we were in our suite. The hotel offers a selection of rooms and suites to suit all guests. Our first words after stepping in, wow, our beautiful suite was stunning. The separate living area was wonderfully spacious with a selection of seating and beautiful comfy sofas. We loved the abundance of space to relax in.

In the living room we had an Illy coffee machine, selection of teas and bottled water, all of which was refreshed throughout our stay. A mini bar is also available.

The bedroom was separated from the living area by double sliding doors. In the evening we always arrived back after turn down service where our bed was made ready to fall into, slippers placed by the bed and water on the bedside table.

The curtains were controlled by a switch at the side of the bed, we loved waking up and not even having to get out of bed to open the curtains! The big windows gave us wonderful views over the city and we loved seeing the city wake up, come alive in the day and light up in the evenings.

The bathroom was a delight with a separate large walk-in shower, separate toilet (there was also a second toilet in the living area), but the star was the free standing bath.

After an eight-hour city tour, a bath to soak my weary feet was a dream. With a quick call to room service we were brought some bath salts. Add onto that a glass of red wine and it was bliss!

The hotel is home to a spa, fitness suite and pool. During our stay we managed to enjoy a few hours relaxing by the outdoor pool. There are a selection of loungers and pool towels readily available. We loved listening to the city below us whilst feeling like we were in an oasis of calm.

As well as enjoying our stunning suite, we took advantage of the many dining options the hotel offers.

Pondichéry Café is the hotel’s main buffet restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We enjoyed breakfast with our favourite drink, masala chai. There were an abundance of live cooking stations offering such a wonderful variety of cuisines, but, of course, we were in Mumbai so chose to eat the local options and I enjoyed my first masala dosa for breakfast, it was delicious! My other breakfast dish which I loved was the stuffed paratha, a taste sensation.

We also enjoyed Sunday brunch in the Pondichéry Café and what a choice of food there was. Freshly cooked food to enjoy from the buffet, live cooking stations, a beautiful selection of sushi and the desserts, which looked stunning (and tasted just as good)! My favourite was the chaat station where I enjoyed pani puri and chaat.

In the evening guests can enjoy dinner at a variety of restaurants and we had booked dinner at Jyran, the hotel’s award-winning tandoor restaurant.

The service was brilliant and after not knowing what to order we took our server’s advice and ordered from the set menu which gave us a selection of starters, mains, breads and a biryani.

We had a feast of incredibly cooked food, a total of 11 sharing dishes and our taste buds were dancing with delight at the well-balanced, perfectly spiced dishes.

You won’t be disappointed with a dining experience at Jyran.

The restaurant also has an outdoor terrace, this is where we chose to enjoy our masala chai, taking in the evening sights of the city, sipping on our tea, with full bellies and being so grateful for where we were and what a special experience we were having.

Guests staying in a Club Millésime room have access to the hotel’s executive lounge. We took advantage of the lounge on a few occasions, it was really an oasis of calm and whenever we visited we were warmly welcomed and had a choice of seating.

Club guests can enjoy breakfast in the lounge which we did one morning. A small quality buffet is available or guests can order from the menu, masala dosa for me!

In the early evening we enjoyed the club rooms cocktail hour where for two hours guests can opt to enjoy a cocktail, wine or beer. We loved that we had the choice to escape to the lounge whenever we wanted.

What stood out throughout our stay were all the lovely hotel staff. Everyone we encountered was friendly, wanting to know how we were and what we had enjoyed doing that day. They were always willing to help with any questions we had about where to go, what to see and what to eat.

The Sofitel Mumbai BKC is a luxury hotel and one which made our time in Mumbai so special.
