Staying in a Chatsworth Estate Cottage

Drinking my morning cup of tea sat outside, looking out over countryside views of the Chatsworth estate, hearing nothing but birdsong, there isn’t really a more relaxing way to start your day.

And that’s how Mr B and I enjoyed every morning at the perfect ‘Pingle’ cottage where we stayed for three wonderful nights.

This dog-friendly cottage had everything we could wish for in a home away from home.

Our cottage slept four and had two bedrooms. The one we did not use was downstairs and had two single beds and an ensuite. The entrance hall had plenty of space for hanging coats and leaving walking boots.

Upstairs was the double bedroom, which was light and airy, and had a door which opened directly into the secure garden.

The window on the opposite side of the room gave us more uninterrupted countryside views.

The ensuite had a bath and overhead shower and full-size toiletries are provided in both bathrooms, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion.

The open plan living and dining area is where we spent most of our time when we were not outside enjoying the garden.

The kitchen had a dishwasher, washing machine, oven, microwave and fridge freezer. And what made our lives so much easier was all the essentials which were supplied, foil, cling film, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, tea towels, bin bags and all the pots, pans and utensils you could need.

There was a Nespresso machine and some pods were provided along with a cafetiere. We enjoyed using both.

When we were eating late in the evening, we enjoyed meals around the large dining table which was extremely spacious.

The living area had a comfy two-seater sofa and Mr B really took a liking to the two large lounge chairs which I can confirm were very comfy indeed, perfect for relaxing in and enjoying a drink.

In the centre of the living area there is a log burner with logs and kindling provided. We enjoyed lovely weather during our stay so didn’t need to use it, but I could imagine how wonderful it would be to use during the cooler months.

The living area also has a door with direct access into the garden.

The cottage was truly stunning, but our favourite area was actually outside, the garden. Firstly, it is fully enclosed, which was wonderful for us not having to worry about having the doors open and letting JoJo plod inside and outside whenever she fancied. Although most of the time we were outside with her!

The garden was large and had a lovely dining table with seating, it was perfectly located.

The things we loved the most about sitting outside was the complete peace and quiet. At no point could we hear any traffic noise. It was truly so peaceful.

And the views, oh so many beautiful countryside views.

There was also a charcoal BBQ, but we didn’t choose to use this.

When not spending time in our perfect ‘Pingle’ cottage we were out walking. As the cottage is on the Chatsworth Estate, you are spoilt for choice. There was a nice selection of walking routes provided in the information pack in the cottage which is very useful.

The cottage is just under an hour walk to Chatsworth House. It was a lovely walk which took us along the River Derwent past plenty of sheep and you get some stunning views of the house as you are approaching.

We had also pre-booked tickets into the Chatsworth gardens which are dog-friendly. There is lots to see around the gardens, perfectly manicured grounds, flower gardens, sculptures, walking trails and plenty of areas to sit and enjoy a picnic (bubbles optional!).

With our walk to and from the cottage and around the gardens we clocked up seven miles, safe to say JoJo slept well that evening!

We also chose to take the short drive to Lumsdale Valley Waterfall and enjoy the circular walking route.

Conveniently located a short walk from the falls is Bentley Brook Brewing Company, a lovely dog-friendly micropub with a great selection of local beers and ciders.

You could easily stay at one of the cottages for a week and go on a different walk every day as you are in the perfect location, on the Chatsworth Estate and in the Peak District.

Chatsworth Escapes actually has a choice of over 25 cottages which come in all different shapes and sizes. We had an utterly perfect weekend just the three of us, but we could also picture coming away with family and staying in one of the bigger cottages.

For us, our stay was all about relaxing, enjoying the views, the fresh air and going on some lovely walks. We did all of that enjoyed every second.
